While I had learned the basics of single crochet in the round years ago, crochet never gelled in my brain the way knitting originally did. A few weeks ago, I got a mental itch to try crochet again (though I can’t pinpoint a specific impetus).
I think it helped that I started on small, simple washcloth projects, on which I could practice the foundational stitches. Of course it also helped that crochet objects tend to complete more quickly than their knitted counterparts. Either way, this time, crochet resonated with me, so I am working on an… ambitious (?) project – a king size blanket!
Based on my calculations mid-project (since I am nearly always too impatient to swatch 😅), I think I will want to buy 4 more cakes of yarn than I already purchase for this project. If that turns out to be the case, I am hopeful that dye lot won’t be a big negative impact, since I am knitting ~5 inch tall stripes with 5 different colors (and therefore like-colors are quite spaced out).
For those who are interested, I am broadly following the Speedy Granny Ruth Crochet Bedspread pattern from the Secret Yarnery. I am using Lion brand Comfy Cotton Blend yarn in Driftwood, Lovie Dovie, and Whipped Cream (all pictured), plus Blueberry Muffin, and Ocean Breeze (not pictured). The crochet hook I am using is a Clover Amour USA size J / 6.0mm. The pictured yarn bowl is from Darn Good Yarn.
