I treated myself to a subscription to Madelinetosh’s 2023 quarterly yarn club, both because I’m loving trying themed yarn colorways and because this year’s theme is the “reader’s edition”! Each box comes with 2 skeins and 1 “book-centric gift”:
- February | Fantasy
- 2 skeins of TML + Copper
- Book-centric gift
- May | Literary Fiction
- 2 skeins of Twist Light
- Book-centric gift
- August | Mystery
- 2 skeins of Tosh Vintage
- Book-centric gift
- November | Self Help
- 2 skeins of Tosh Unwind (New Limited Edition yarn base)
- Book-centric gift
I am most looking forward to August because I love mysteries, but February’s theme of “fantasy” came as a close second in anticipation. I am disappointed there isn’t a science fiction-themed quarter, but I am happy regardless.
The February / Fantasy box arrived in a simple cardboard box with “Love, Madelinetosh” on it
The February “book-centric” gift is a leather bookmark with “M T” embossed on it. The February exclusive colorway is called “Legend Has it”. It is a mix of pink, orange, coral, and copper with copper sparkles in it. The TML + Copper yarn base is described by Madelinetosh as:
Bronzed copper strands of stellina woven throughout our classic base Tosh Merino Light.

Overall, I like the colorway. I am not really into sparkly yarn, but I like the warmth of all of the colors, and the sparkle is fairly understated. The book / series I would pair with this yarn is The House of Shattered Wings / the Dominion of the Fallen series by Aliette de Bodard, “A series of dark Gothic fantasies set in a turn-of-the-century Paris devastated by a magical war–featuring magicians, witches, alchemists, Fallen angels, and the odd Vietnamese ex-Immortal…”, with the first book being a murder mystery (here’s me sneaking my love of mystery into my love of fantasy).
I plan to knit the yarn into socks on my circular sock knitting machine, and have coned the yarn in preparation.
